What We Do

Eco-Compost Tea

Compost Tea is Nature's own medicine. Compost Tea, which is brewed organically under very specific conditions, is an extraction of beneficial organisms from selected composts which are then fed up and extracted to form a high concentrated solution.

Compost Tea is not a fertiliser. Instead, it supports a healthy soil environment by providing protection from attack from disease, as well as ensuring that the soil is enriched and minerals are readily and easily available to the plant. The biological organisms introduced to the soil also help to create an environment that is rich in bacteria and fungi.

Commercial growers have had excellent success in the control of sclerotinia, armalleria and phytophthora in a variety of crops, as well as better pest control (including scale); longer fruit storage life; improved drainage and water holding capacity.

In short, compost tea can be used to combat disease and maximise plant performance.

Cost and Applications as follows;

  • Eco-Compost tea - $0.90/litre

     Use four times per season @ 150 litres/ha along with Eco-        seaweed extract ,Eco-humic/fulvic acid and fish hydrolozate

Eco-Seaweed Extract

Unique locally made product - the only biologically “living

seaweed extract” available in NZ - organically certified for over 25 years.

Benefits

  • Increased brix levels leading to reduced disease and pest     attack.

  • Improved soil and plant health.

  • Improved  plant nutrition and a stronger plant immune system.

  • Inoculation of orchard canopy and soil with beneficial biological organisms.

  • Improved fruit storage.

  • Stronger canopy growth (less blow outs).

  • Improved tolerance to frost.

  • Improved pasture and animal health for dairy farming.

Economics - Competitively priced with  Acadian and other seaweed products with the exception that this product is biologically alive.

Introduce - trace elements, plant growth hormones & beneficial biological inoculation.

Brewed -  utilising a vortex system and oxygen to enable the beneficial biology introduced into the extract to multiply and break down the kelp releasing trace  elements and plant growth hormones. Ingredients include Ascophyllum nodosum (Acadian) kelp, rainwater, Bio-Dynamic compost preparations, BD Max preparations, Eco-Logic Biological inoculant and    Eco Humic/Fulvic acid (see below)

NB: This product is approved by Zespri for use on kiwifruit.

Vermicast

We have over a million worms on site that are fed regularly and the vermicast made from them is used in our Eco-Humic/Fulvic Acid and our Biological Inoculant preparations.

The benefits of Vermicast are as follows;

Analysis of earthworm castings has revealed that they are richer in plant nutrients than the soil, approximately three times more calcium and several times more nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Worm castings contain a high percentage of humus. Humic acid which is present in humus, not only provides a binding medium for plant nutrients but also releases them to plants upon demand. Humus is believed to aid in the prevention of harmful plant pathogens, fungi, nematodes and bacteria. The key factor is the microbial activity. Generally this is ten to twenty times higher in Vermicast than top soil. Worm castings (Vermicast) contains thousands of bacteria, enzymes and remnants of plant materials and animal manures which have been digested by worms. Humus, which is in Vermicast in large amounts is a complicated material formed during the breakdown of organic matter. One of it’s components, humic acid, provides many plant nutrients such as calcium, iron, potassium, sulphur and phosphorus. These nutrients are stored in the humic acid molecule and are readily available to the plants when required. Vermicast also contains slow release nutrients which are immediately available for plants to utilize. They dissolve slowly which helps in the prevention of nutrient leaching. The product can also help insulate plant roots from extreme temperatures, reduce erosion and is odourless.
